Saguaro Books, LLC publishes middle grade and young adult fiction written by first-time authors.
· Why first time authors only?
First time authors have many hurdles to overcome on the road to publishing. We seek to help authors overcome at least some of these hurdles by considering their work. No agent is required.
· What is middle grade?
Middle grade is considered grades 5-9 or ages 10-13. Of course, these ages and grade levels are approximate and should be considered as a guide, not an absolute.
· Why should I consider Saguaro Books?
We are a print-on-demand (POD) publisher. We are not a vanity press. We adhere to strict editorial and publishing standards. We utilize the newest publishing technology available.
· How will Saguaro Books distribute my books?
Our books are available on Amazon and we utilize their expanded distribution option; Barnes and Noble Nook; Baker & Taylor; Ingram; Waterstone; and, Gardner’s, which means we provide international distribution for all of our books.
· Will Saguaro Books help market my book?
Yes, we provide authors with a marketing packet with suggestions and samples of press releases, sell sheets, bookmarks and other material you will need to develop your own marketing plan. Your book will be featured on multiple websites and blogs. We will assist you in starting a virtual book tour. Also, we will market your book at meetings and book sales.
We will set the book up in print. However, because we are a print-on-demand (POD) publisher our books are available through our website, Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. Also, because we are a POD publisher, our books are not available on chain bookstore shelves.
Our books can be ordered through www.amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and any other major bookstore chain. They are NOT available on bookstore shelves. Our books are listed in Books-in-Print.
They are printed as they are ordered or as demanded (POD). Some chains will make special arrangements with individual authors. These arrangements must be made between the author and the bookstore chain. Saguaro Books will not be involved in negotiations but will answer questions to the best of our ability.
· Do I have to sign a contract?
Yes, Saguaro Books requires every author to sign a contract before their book is published. This protects the author’s interests as well as the publisher’s. It solidifies the publication arrangements, including such issues as royalties and ancillary rights.
· What form will my book take?
Our books are published in paper and ebook formats.
· Do you provide copyright?
No, we do not. The author retains ownership of the book and it is your responsibility to apply for copyright. We will provide you with the "proof" you'll need for filing and assist you as we are able.
We do, however, place a copyright notice in all works. According to www.copyright.gov, "Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device." It is your option if you wish to pursue an official registration of your work.
We do register all print books with the Library of Congress and send them a print copy of your book and the control number is printed inside the front cover under the ISBN number.
· Will I be expected to promote and advertise my book?
Yes, most successful authors actively promote their own work via websites, signings, presentations and talk shows. We promote the books we publish on our website, on social media and at book shows and fairs. We encourage authors to join social networks, writing guilds and organizations, blog sites, etc. Through a joint effort, we will all be successful.
· Does Saguaro Books charge fees to authors?
No. Saguaro Books does not charge its authors for anything including cover art, or editorial services.
